Increasing Traffic to Your Website Will Not Increase Sales
There are many online marketing mistakes that small business owners make, but by far the biggest one is driving traffic to a website that is not optimized to convert those website visitors into customers.
Many online marketers will tell you that converting website visitors into customers is all about numbers – the more traffic you have coming to your website, the more sales you will make. To me that’s ridiculous! Why spend time on generating more and more traffic when you can make sales with a smaller number of incoming traffic as long as people are attracted enough to you to purchase from you.
It’s not about how to increase website traffic; it’s about how to increase conversions!
Think about what’s more profitable to your business: Getting 1000 website visitors a day to your site and 50 of those people eventually become customers…or getting 300 visitors a day to your site and 150 eventually become customers?
You see, the volume of traffic is not as important as converting the traffic that you’re already receiving. Of course you must learn how to get quality traffic in the first place (which is why I teach you how to build a SEO website), but once people start visiting your website you need to know what to do with them.
Notice above that I said “eventually become customers”. The reason that I used the word “eventually” is because there is a sales process that your website visitors need to go through before most of them will want to purchase from you.
It’s a fact that 9 times out of 10 when a person first visits your website, they will not be interested in your offer. People are more inclined to do business with those that they trust and know are credible. So your job is to gain their trust and increase your credibility.
There are various ways to do this online, but overall it comes down to developing a relationship with your target audience and giving them free information that will help them. Developing a relationship with your target audience should be a part of your sales process. You need to sincerely care about them and show them that you do. You also need to set yourself apart from your competition and position yourself as a leader in your industry.
Once you start doing this, your sales will increase regardless of whether or not you’re getting more website traffic.
